The top 5 Growth opportunities for health and wellness branding in 2021
Let's talk about missed opportunity.
This is a photo taken two years ago as I soared into the Alaskan bush for a seven-day backpacking trip. See the ground disappearing outside the window of the plane?
The image captures what I was feeling at this moment. Exhilaration. Wonder. Fear.
Why fear? Flying is not my thing. Travel yes. Flying, no. Hell no.
I’m not afraid of crashing. But I do dread the sick feeling of takeoff and landing. Motion has never been my friend.
But since I want to see the world - go head first into grand adventures - I frequently get into a plane. Overcoming fear.
So there are simple steps I take to prepare myself for flight. Ginger candies. Earplane plugs. Acupuncture.
With these slight innovations to my travel, I’ve bravely stepped onto planes. Expanded my horizons.
This trip to Alaska was incredible.
Getting dropped off atop a ridge at Wolverine airstrip. Orienteering our way over Chitistone Pass along the infamous, historic Goat Trail. Ending our journey at the Skolai airstrip. These are fond memories with friends I’ll not soon forget.
So how does this relate to your business?
It doesn't take much to miss out on a growth opportunity .
It could be something little.
Sleeping in an extra 15 minutes
Not scheduling your time
Scrolling social media
Binge watching Netflix
Checking your inbox — obsessively
Eating carb-loaded foods making you sleepy
Not prioritizing following up with clients. Or following through.
Which of these is you?
I struggle with sticking to schedules I set up for myself.
Every Sunday I write in my work journal. Planning my week. Identifying projects to complete. Brainstorming content for my clients.
But sometimes during the week I get distracted. Caught up with a side project unrelated to my output goals. Or let my mind wander because I’m overwhelmed by what I need to do. Organizing my sock drawer instead of writing my next blog post.
You too?
“Opportunity is missed by most people, because it is dressed like overalls and looks like work.”
Can you relate?
Going back to my story, yes, I eventually get the writing done. Because I'm committed to never missing a deadline. But the distraction time drained my energy. Pulled my eyes off my personal Win. Creating missed opportunity.
(btw, you have identified your own personal Win, right? More on that in another blog post...)
Right now, biz is still slow for many people. Fear flooded the minds of our clients over the past year. Took their eyes off their Win.
You’ve stopped hearing from potential clients or patients. You’re receiving radio silence. So what do you do?
Well, if you want opportunities for growth, here’s what you DON’T do:
Close the doors on your business — quit when profits slow down
Curl up in a ball under the table in reaction to feelings of overwhelm
Lash out at colleagues or family due to stress
Sell off your business when clients start cancelling
Stop writing blog posts, sending emails and creating content
Instead? Keep innovating.
This is your window of opportunity
Take advantage of this opportunity for growth
Or someone else will.
“Opportunities are never missed: someone will take the ones you lost and seize the moment.”
Here are the top 5 growth opportunities for health and wellness branding in 2021
Create a mastermind group within your industry. It establishes you as an industry expert. You could do this in many ways:
Akimbo Virtual Co-working Group — Hey extroverts! You’re not used to working from home. Akimbo is a fabulous way to connect with other professionals doing remote work. You’ll get inspired and stay connected. I created a copywriting mastermind group in Akimbo. Introverts are safe here too.
Facebook Group — People are searching globally for connections. Be their connector.
Zoom — Identify a few health and wellness industry pros. Meet weekly for 15-30 minutes via Zoom to share ideas and dream big.
Instagram Live — Think about the live Instagram videos you’ve watched. Which videos affected you most? Were they perfectly staged? Or impromptu videos of someone being authentic? For me, it’s the latter. Go live on Instagram weekly and become known as industry leader. Invite someone different to go live with you each week, and BAM! You’ve created a mastermind group.
LinkedIn — Right now, LinkedIn has the most integrity of any social media platforms. This is another fantastic venue for going live. Or to find industry pros for your Zoom mastermind.
Volunteer in your community. Forge connections with like-minded individuals. Care about, and contribute to, a cause that matters to you. It’s guaranteed to pull you out of a negative headspace. There’s the added bonus of the potential for meeting new clients. But volunteer to add value to the lives of others, and depth to your own.
3. Self assessment. What are you good at? How could you improve? Or what have you always wanted to be good at? Identify what this is, and then dive into it. This is your time to rise and shine.
4. Start a blog. Preaching to the choir here. Set a goal to write in your blog every day. Blogging teaches us to make observations about the world around us, because we know we’ll have to write something tomorrow. If you feature the blog on your site, Google will likely notice and send organic traffic your way.
5. Keep creating content. Seth Godin famously said, “Content marketing is the only marketing left.” And for good reason. Everything you view online every day? That’s content. Consider changing your strategy. Create a content calendar. Commit to adding quality, SEO-optimized content to your site, social media and newsletter on a consistent basis.
When you look back a year from now, what will people say — moreover, what will you say — you did with this time?
“Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long you’ll miss them.”
Don’t let this time be a missed opportunity for you. It’s easy to become paralyzed by fear when times are tough. Easier still to hit the easy buttons instead of the reset buttons.
Your time is now.
This is your opportunity for growth in 2021.
